What you’ll practice
Calculate a stated percentage of a quantity without rounding.
Start by identifying the whole. Then use a fraction or decimal to find the part: 25% is one quarter, so 25% of 80 is 80 ÷ 4.
How this skill works
Write p% as p/100. Multiply the whole by p and divide by 100.
Useful checks include 50% being one half and 25% being one quarter. An answer for a positive percentage below 100% must be smaller than the whole.
