A second version lets you revisit a skill with fresh numbers or prepare sheets labeled A and B. Start by deciding what should stay the same: number range, question count, working space and any skill-specific options. Different seeds give different questions, so look through both sheets before treating them as comparable practice.

Record the shared settings

For column addition, decide whether you want to practice place-value alignment, carrying or both. Choose the range and regrouping option, then keep Questions, Layout, Text size and Show a worked example the same on both sheets. Match the paper size and answer-key choice too.

Compare the actual questions

Here are two hand-picked sets within the same 100-to-300 range. Each calculation needs a carry from ones to tens and from tens to hundreds. That makes them useful to compare, although other features of the calculations can still differ.

PositionVersion AA answerVersion BB answer
1157 + 268425168 + 257425
2246 + 179425235 + 189424

Check the first pair explicitly. In 157 + 268, 7 + 8 = 15, so write 5 and carry 1. Then 5 + 6 + 1 = 12, so write 2 and carry 1. Finally, 1 + 2 + 1 = 4: the answer is 425. In 168 + 257, the ones also make 15 and the tens with the carry make 12. Matching that structure is more informative than noticing that both use three-digit numbers.

Generate, inspect, then label

  1. 1

    Keep the first record

Generate the first sheet and record its skill, settings, generator version and seed. Save its question pages and matching answer key before making the next version.

  2. 2

    Change the seed

Use New version or enter a different Worksheet seed under More options and choose Re-create. Keep the other settings unchanged.

  3. 3

    Inspect the second sheet

Compare the kinds of operations, regrouping, number size and space for working. If a particular demand matters, check every question rather than inferring it from the range.

  4. 4

    Label your paper copies

Write A and B on the printed pages or use distinct filenames for saved PDFs. Match each answer key to its seed and question order. These labels do not require student accounts or names in the generator.

Apply the same check to subtraction

For subtraction, check where borrowing is needed, especially when the top number contains a zero. These details can differ within the same number range. Make a separate pair with Column subtraction if that is the skill you want to practice.
