What you’ll practice
Use endpoint and arrow conventions to name a geometric object.
A segment stops at both ends, a ray continues in one direction, and a line continues in both. Look at the endpoints and arrowheads before choosing a name.
How this skill works
Count the endpoints and inspect the arrows.
Arrowheads indicate continuation, not a measured endpoint. Two labeled points can lie on any of the three objects.
Worked example
- A is one fixed endpoint.
- The arrow continues in one direction beyond B.
- An object with one endpoint and one continuing direction is a ray.
Answer: Ray
Teaching notes
- Do not count a labeled point in the middle of a line as an endpoint.
Practice questions
