What you’ll practice
Recall or calculate multiplication facts with factors from 0 to 12.
Use facts you know to work out the ones you are still learning. For example, six groups of seven are five groups of seven plus one more group.
How this skill works
Multiplication combines equal groups. For example, 6 × 7 can be read as six groups of seven, totaling 42.
A factor of zero gives zero, while a factor of one leaves the other factor unchanged. Changing the order of two factors does not change their product.
Worked example
Calculate 6 × 7.
- Split six groups into five groups and one group.
- 5 × 7 = 35 and 1 × 7 = 7.
- 35 + 7 = 42.
Answer: 42
