What you’ll practice

Round whole numbers to the stated place, rounding halfway values up.

Find the two multiples on either side of a number, then decide which is closer. Read the rounding place in each question: the same number can round differently to the nearest ten or hundred.

How this skill works

Locate the lower and upper multiples of the requested unit. Their midpoint separates numbers that round down from numbers that round up.

A value exactly halfway between the two multiples rounds to the upper one in this worksheet. The rounded result may lie outside the original number range.

Worked example

Round 2,650 to the nearest 100.
  1. The neighboring hundreds are 2600 and 2700.
  2. Their midpoint is 2650.
  3. 2650 is exactly halfway, so it rounds up to 2700.

Answer: 2700
